Winter is Coming. Get Prepared!

VillageVolunteers

With the wet, winter months fast approaching, residents and business owners are working to keep their homes and businesses safe. The Town provides resources to residents and business owners on its FLOODING and STORM RESOURCES pages. These pages contain helpful information on helping get prepared for the winter and provide links to additional information and resources. We encourage you to visit these sites, and as always, please let us know if there is other ways the Town can assist you in becoming educated and prepared.

The Town of San Anselmo has a long-standing tradition of volunteerism among its residents. Students volunteer at many community events, residents attend park and creek clean-up days, dozens of people volunteer each year to coach a youth sports team, and many residents fill seats on the Town's various boards, commissions and committees. The list goes on and on.

The Town is prepared and ready to respond when there is a potential flood or other type of emergency. Public employees are mandated Disaster Service Workers and are trained to act as such during an event. We have a wide variety of capabilities among our team, but often find ourselves in need of extra hands.

A great opportunity to help your community is by joining the Public Works Department's Village Volunteer program. The Village Volunteers are a volunteer team of town residents that provide support to the Public Works Department personnel in the area of storm preparation and response.Typical duties include Neighborhood Storm Patrol (driving through neighborhoods and clearing storm drains, roads, etc), Sand Bag Station Coordinators/Monitors, Merchant notifications/assistance, program coordination and much more.

In a small town like ours, Town staff does its very best to stay on-top of all of the various needs around storm preparation and response. Engaging trained volunteers and buidling a network of neighorhood-based assistance can make all the difference. Our apologies for the easy cliche, but It takes A Village!

We encourage you to get involved. If you are interesting in joining this effort, please taker the short survey located in the Virtual Town Hall pages and Public Works staff will follow up with you.

Thank you!
