Welcome Songs

Buenos días/Good Morning

(Tune : Frère Jacques)

Good morning, good morning, how are you, how are you? Very well, thank you, very well thank you. How about you? How about you?

Buenos días, buenos días . ¿Cómo está? ¿Cómo está?

Muy bien, gracias.

¿Y usted?

The more we get together,

Together, together,

The more we get together,

The happier we'll be.

For your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends.

The more we get together,

The happier we'll be!

Good morning Mrs. Perky Bird, Perky Bird, Perky Bird.

Where are you? I’m flying through the air, and then down to the ground.

Up, down, turn around.

Touch the sky and touch the ground.

Wiggle fingers, wiggle toes, wiggle shoulders, say hello!

(goodbye version: pat your belly, blink your eyes, blow a kiss and say goodbye!)

Rhymes

Toddlers find it fun and exciting to explore the world of language while moving their fingers, arms, and bodies. Fingerplays and action rhymes can help toddlers build word skills and add new words they know and use. These important early literacy activities spice up language learning with fun!

Fingerplay:   Open, shut them, open shut them.

Give a little clap, clap, clap.

Open, shut them,

Open shut them.

Lay them in your lap, lap, lap.

Creep them, crawl them, creep them, crawl them,

Right up to your chin, chin, chin.

Open wide your little mouth,

But do not let them in!

Two little bluebirds sitting on a hill.

One named Jack, one named Jill. Fly away Jack, fly away Jill. Come back Jack, come back Jill!

Two little blackbirds sitting on a cloud. One named Soft. One named Loud! Fly away soft. Fly away LOUD! Come back soft. Come back LOUD!!!

Dos manitas, diez deditos,

dos manitas, diez deditos,

dos manitas, diez deditos,

cuéntalos conmigo.

Uno, dos, tres deditos,

y uno más son diez deditos.

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle.
Fingers like to wiggle waggle way up high!

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle,

Fingers like to wiggle waggle way down low!

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle.

Fingers like to wiggle waggle on my knee!

Again!

(Say the word “high” in a high voice, say the word “low” in a low voice. Repeat.)

This is big, big, big,

This is small, small, small,

This is short, short, short,

This is tall, tall, tall,

This is fast, fast, fast,

This is slow, slow, slow,

This is yes, yes, yes,

This is no, no, no

Rain is falling down. Splash!

Rain is falling down. Splash!
Pitter patter, pitter patter.

Rain is falling down. Splash!

And this little piggy went, “wee, wee, wee, wee!” All the way home!

See the ponies galloping, galloping down the country road. (Gradually speed up.)

See the ponies coming home, all tired out, all tired out.

Jack in the box, sitting so still,

Will you come out?

Yes, I will!

(Pretend to climb in a box.

Pretend to push yourself down.

Pretend to wind yourself up.

JUMP UP!)

Come under my umbrella, it’s starting to rain.

With thunder (clap) and lightning (hands out) and thunder and lightning. Come under my umbrella, it’s starting to rain!

(Tune: Have you ever seen a lassie?)

The Eensy Weensy  Spider

climbed up the water spout.

Down came the rain and washed the spider out.

Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain.

And the eensy weensy spider

climbed up the spout again!

Touch index fingers together in turn to make the movements of the spider. Raise the hands and lower them, wriggling your fingers to indicate the rain. Make a circular movement with the hands for the sun, and then repeat the spider action.

Pat-A-Cake

Pat-a-cake, baker’s man

Bake me a cake

As fast as you can.

Roll it and pat it

And mark it with a B,

And put it in the oven

For baby and me!

Small as a mouse (squat in a ball)

Way up high in the apple tree

Two little apples smiled down at me.
