Utilities, Garbage and Recycling Service

Garbage and Recycling Service

All businesses must have garbage collection service. The Town maintained garbage cans are intended for patrons of the downtown area and not for business use. The Town has an agreement with Marin Sanitary Service to provide garbage service to Town businesses. Downtown San Anselmo Businesses may dispose cardboard in the waste bins to the rear of Town Hall.

The specific Town regulations regarding garbage service may be found here:

Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling (AB 1826)

As of January 1, 2019, all businesses that generate four or more cubic yards of commercial solid waste each week must enroll in services to collect organic material separately from other waste. Four cubic yards is about the size of a small dumpster. Organic material includes food waste, landscape trimmings, clean wood and lumber, and unlined paper like cardboard and paper towels.

Green Business Program

The Green Business Program is a voluntary partnership among business leaders, government agencies and non-profit organizations. We recognize and promote businesses that demonstrate continuous compliance with applicable environmental regulations, conserve energy, water, and other materials, implement sound environmental practices that prevent pollution and waste generation, and share environmentally responsible practices with other businesses in our community.

The Marin County green business program is part of the Bay Area Green Business Program. There are over 2,750 certified Green Businesses located in the Bay Area.
