SAN ANSELMO BUSINESS UPDATE
May 31, 2020

More Businesses Allowed to Open Monday June 1

The public health officer has issued a new shelter-in-place order allowing additional businesses to reopen Monday, June 1:

  • Childcare
  • General office space
  • Libraries – curbside pick-up
  • Restaurants - outdoor dining
  • Outdoor retail
  • Summer/Sports camp
  • West Marin beaches & parks

Every business will need a Site Specific Protection Plan and there is a fillable PDF form at the County website here. Review the latest business guidance and protocols at Marinrecovers.com.

Businesses and organizations that may be allowed to open June 15 include faith-based organizations (outdoor only) and limited indoor retail.

Coming Soon: San Anselmo Ave. Weekend Street Closure and Relaxed Regulations for Outdoor Uses

Town staff is working on a plan to close San Anselmo Avenue between Tunstead and Tamalpais Avenues on weekends through the summer to allow outdoor dining and other uses as they are allowed by the County Health Officer. Staff is also proposing temporary suspension of regulations that limit use of outdoor spaces, such as parking lots. Staff would like to make it easy for business to temporarily use parking lots, sidewalks and street areas to reopen safely. Contact permits@townofsananselmo.org or planning@townofsananselmo.org for more information.

In added support for our downtown businesses, the Town has temporarily waived parking fees for all of the Town parking lots.

Parking time limits continue to apply.

Open for Business Posters

The Economic Development Committee (EDC) launched its "Open for Business" branded poster campaign to help promote our local businesses. The campaign was designed to appeal to San Anselmo’s sense of community and connectedness, create town esprit and be light hearted in these serious times. When posted throughout Town, posters convey the sense of a vibrant, resilient, energized community and let people know that we’re open for business.

The EDC is delighted to announce Phase II of its poster campaign, which includes additional branded poster designs by type of business, and even a Drake High School graduation support poster. If you don't see a poster that fits your type of business, please let us know and we will be happy to create one for you. To view recommended poster hanging guidelines and to see the full line of available posters, click here.

Please contact us for the  free posters. Let us deliver one to you by signing up here:  ORDER FORM  or pick up signs in Town Council Chambers lobby (weekdays) or Creekside Pizza.

EDC Sends County Health Officer Results of Needs Assessment Survey

On May 20th the Economic Development Committee (EDC) urged the Public Health Officer to consider the EDC survey data regarding the potentially permanent economic impact of the current restrictions in our Town and to adopt revisions to the COVID-19 order that would permit a larger number of businesses to open with appropriate safety protocols in place. See the letter here.

Highlights of the 152 survey responses shared with Dr. Willis:
  • Over 50% of respondents had been in business more than 10 years
  • Nearly 55% of respondents stated that their business revenue had declined more than 75% as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions
  • Nearly 30% of respondents answered that at the current level of restriction, they risked permanent closure of their businesses in less than two months, with another 35% estimating permanent closure in three to five months.
  • Nearly 67% reported no online sales presence

Paint the Town Green June 1 to 12

Drake High School Class of 2020 supporters are asking everyone to decorate green until June 12. Fill out their google spreadsheet to give them permission to decorate (and take down) a flag and poster on your storefront.

The EDC also created a custom Drake Pirates GRAD poster that coordinates with the Town poster campaign to celebrate the Class of 2020. Don't forget to order or pick up your Grad signs today!
