SAN ANSELMO BUSINESS UPDATE
August 10, 2020

Personal Service Businesses Allowed to Reopen

Marin County Public Health is allowing certain personal care services offered outdoors.  Nail salons, massage therapy, esthetic services, cosmetology and skin care services can reopen outdoors effective immediately. Indoor and outdoor services for tattooing, piercing and electrolysis must remain closed because of Marin’s status on the State of California’s County Monitoring List. Please contact the Town for a free permit to operate outdoors (see below).

All Marin businesses must complete and implement a Site-Specific Protection Plan (also known as Revised Appendix A) prior to reopening.  The plan should include industry specific guidance mandated by the State of California. Nail salons, massage therapy, esthetic services, skin care and cosmetology businesses operating outdoors should follow the guidance for personal care services provided outdoors provided by the state.  In addition, the state provides a checklist for personal care services provided outdoors to guide a business owner through the modifications needed to transition traditionally indoor personal services businesses to an outdoor environment. Once complete, businesses should post their completed Site-Specific Protection Plan for customers and employees to review.

Free Permits for Temporary Outdoor Uses

The Town is accepting free applications for temporary outdoor dining and outdoor business activities. This allows restaurants and businesses to use outdoor spaces to resume operations in compliance with social distancing requirements imposed as a result of COVID-19. The application may be found here. Contact Dmitriy Laptev in Building/Public Works or stop by Town Hall (upstairs) between 8:30 am to 12:00 pm Monday - Thursday. Don't forget to wear a mask.

San Anselmo Avenue One Way Traffic Pilot Project

The Town has received a $20,000 grant from the Transportation Authority of Marin for a pilot project to temporarily turn part of San Anselmo Avenue into a one-way street between Tunstead and San Anselmo Avenues. Traffic would flow in the northwest direction. A one-way street would allow for additional space to widen sidewalks and develop parklets for outdoor activities. Parking would remain but will move away from the curb. The street could also be meandered and narrowed to slow down traffic and add more bike improvements where feasible. Information presented to the Town Council may be viewed here (item 7). For more information contact the Department of Public Works staff.

Free Reopening Posters Available

Contact the Economic Development Committee (EDC) for the new "Open for Business" branded posters. The campaign was designed to appeal to San Anselmo’s sense of community and connectedness, create town esprit and be light hearted in these serious times. When posted throughout Town, posters convey the sense of a vibrant, resilient, energized community and let people know that we’re open for business. To view recommended poster hanging guidelines and to see the full line of available posters, click here. Please contact us for the custom and free posters.
