Recommendations for Social Posts
We recommend each business or restaurant have at least three social media posts about SBS. They include:
Post 1: Social post regarding SBS and your business
Post 2: Any specials or discounts being offered, featured items, posts showing getting ready for SBS sale, free gift wrap, grab and go meal specials, gift with purchase, etc. Aside from text, include photos and videos.
Post 3: SBS day of actual sales event. Post pictures of happy customers purchasing items (wearing masks and socially distanced of course), picking up your grab and go specials at the door, etc. Look busy, but safe!
Tags within text of posts: Facebook = @smallbusinesssaturday and Insta = @shopsmall
Hashtags to use for SBS posts:
#smallbusinesssaturday #shopsmall #shoplocal #shopsananselmo #sananselmo #shopmarin
Be sure to have hashtags with your business name, url/website address and anything else aligned with post.
Social posts will be placed on Town and EDC social media accounts.
Reposting by other businesses and community members is encouraged.
Official posts will be created on EDC and Town Next Door accounts, as well as my own account.
We recommend businesses also create their own posts and include SBS specials.
Comments received from our community will help drive results.
Marin IJ 1/4 Page Advertisement
A 1/4 page advertisement has been purchased by the Town, and will run in the Marin IJ this week to promote Small Business Saturday and San Anselmo businesses.
All brick and mortar businesses should send out an Eblast newsletter about SBS.
Promotion of SBS was featured in the Town Manager Newsletter on 11/21/20 and will again on 11/28/20.
Create a pop up on your website homepage to highlight SBS and any specials that will be offered.
Great opportunity to highlight SBS, interesting information about your business, and SBS specials that day. Remember to use hashtags.
Outreach to Media
I will reach out to Media Sources regarding our efforts.
The downtown buildings and trees in Imagination Park are decorated with lights. We encourage storefront businesses to decorate for the holidays.
Debriefing SBS & Holiday 2020 Next Steps
Our EDC sign gurus Rich and Kelley have already started work designing new Holiday signs that will be available after SBS.
On 12/1/20 (T), we will be holding two sessions at different times via Zoom to debrief on SBS efforts, and collectively plan marketing and other efforts for the remainder of the Holiday shopping season. The following one-hour sessions will be held via Zoom:
Session 1: 12/1/20 (T) at 8:30 a.m. Zoom Link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88526454823
Session 2: 12/1/20 (T) at 7:00 p.m. Zoom Link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84726465604
If you can't attend one of the sessions, please feel free to email any recommendations to me.
Since assuming the role of Chair of the EDC in April of this year (wonderful timing with COVID!), it is very clear to me of the importance of having everyone working together to help our small businesses through this extremely challenging time. Crisis = Opportunity. On behalf of the EDC and Town, we look forward to working with you on making this project a success.
Chair, San Anselmo Economic Development Committee
