Drawing from Home:
A series of virtual drawing classes for adults with Janet Jacobs

4th Wednesday of the month at 11am on Zoom
Next workshop: January 27

Drawing is one of the easiest ways of loosing oneself in the delight of the here and now. Taking pen or pencil to paper and drawing from our immediate surroundings has a way of grounding us. Join us for a guided hour of drawing from home -- or wherever you find yourself.
This is an ongoing series. You're welcome to join for one, two, or all of the workshops. We will cover line drawing of shapes, negative spaces, texture and gesture, and more.

Soul of a Nation

Art Talk Tuesday
Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power

Tuesday, February 9 at 12pm on Zoom

Does art have the power to impact lives or change attitudes? Can a work of art stir our consciences and mobilize us to action? Do artists have an obligation to use their work as a mechanism through which a political movement can be furthered? Those are just some of the questions that will be addressed in Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power. The year 1963 might have marked the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, ending slavery in the South, but poverty, prejudice, racism, segregation, and frustration were still rampant in this country. Marsha Holm, a docent with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, will explore how Black artists responded to these social and cultural conditions.
