Art Talk Tuesday
American Abstract at Midcentury
Tuesday, December 14 at 12pm on Zoom
America was flexing its cultural muscles in the post-war years, responding to the triumphs as well as the tragedies of World War II. In this moment, New York displaced Paris as the art center of the western world. Artists such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Gilliam and many more produced big, painterly works of abstract art, emotion-filled and formally inventive. Guest speaker Avril Angevine will focus on the juiciest works of abstract art from midcentury in this Art Talk Tuesday.
